Nursing Philosophy
What is a nurse? A nurse is one that performs the medical treatment, but stays with the patient at the bedside. As I continue to prepare myself for my nursing career, I will continue to view patients in their distinct backgrounds, ultimately shaping the patient-centered care I believe in. I will take the time to evaluate how I can best cater to their needs both medically and emotionally, whether it’s by giving them water when needed, or simply by holding their hand. I will continue to advocate for their needs, so that they will be able to receive quality and wholesome care. I will also assess how to improve the nursing care being provided to patients, so that they can ultimately receive more effective health care.
By taking the time to get to know a patient, I am able to build rapport and provide much more than medical treatment. The healing that comes with companionship, respect, and sincere compassion for patients as people is what happens at the bedside. I constantly seek to provide this as the core of my personal and professional nursing philosophy.
